Overview

What is the Sennheiser EW-DX MKE 2 SET?

The Sennheiser EW-DX MKE 2 SET is a two-channel digital wireless lavalier system with two EW-DX SK bodypack transmitters, two MKE 2 omni-directional clip-on microphones and one EW-DX EM 2 receiver. With 1.9 ms latency, a 134 dB dynamic range and up to 12 hours per bodypack, it is built for presenters, trainers and theatre performers who need their hands free, including in UAE boardrooms, lecture halls and event stages.

It is an Evolution Wireless Digital lavalier kit for two people speaking at the same time. Each SK bodypack takes a 3.5 mm jack microphone and has a programmable mute switch, and the MKE 2 is a small pre-polarized condenser clip-on mic with an omni-directional pattern, so speech stays even when the wearer turns the head. The half-rack receiver fits a 19 inch rack with the included GA 3 kit.

Why this product

Key Benefits

  • Two presenters on one receiver

The EW-DX EM 2 half-rack receiver handles both bodypacks, shows each link on an OLED display and runs on its 12 V adapter or on PoE (IEEE 802.3af).

  • Discreet clip-on microphones

The MKE 2 omni-directional condenser lavalier handles up to 142 dB SPL with 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and a 26 dB equivalent noise level.

  • Low-latency digital audio

The Sennheiser Performance Audio Codec gives 1.9 ms system latency and a 134 dB dynamic range, so input gain rarely needs adjusting between speakers.

  • Dense, intermodulation-free frequency planning

Up to 88 MHz switching bandwidth allows up to 146 channels at 600 kHz spacing, or 293 channels at 300 kHz in Link Density Mode.

  • Encrypted and network-managed

AES-256 encryption protects the audio link, and Sennheiser Control Cockpit or control system plug-ins monitor battery and RF status over Ethernet.

  • Long runtime, easy charging

BA 70 lithium-ion packs give up to 12 hours per bodypack, and the SK charges in the device with the optional CHG 70N-C charger.

Use cases

Applications

  • Boardrooms and town halls

Two presenters can move freely while the omni-directional MKE 2 keeps their voices consistent.

  • Lecture halls and training rooms

Hands-free microphones suit trainers who use a laptop, whiteboard or demo equipment.

  • Theatre and stage productions

The MKE 2 is small enough to hide in costume or hair, and the 100 m working range covers most stages.

  • Broadcast and corporate video

Low latency and a wide 20 Hz to 20 kHz response suit interviews recorded for video.

Installation

Installation & Mounting

Recommended Receiver

For more than two presenters or a Dante audio network, the Sennheiser EW-DX EM 4 DANTE 4-Channel Wireless Receiver receives four EW-DX bodypack, handheld or table stand transmitters in one 19 inch unit and cascades up to 4 units through its built-in antenna splitter. Order the same frequency range (Q1-9 or R1-9) as the bodypacks.

Recommended Microphone

Where room noise or feedback is a problem, the Sennheiser ME 4 Cardioid Condenser Lavalier Microphone plugs into the same EW-DX SK bodypack. Sennheiser lists the ME 4 (models from 2021 onward with a gold-plated connector) as compatible, and its cardioid pattern picks up less sound from the sides and rear than the omni-directional MKE 2.

Expert FAQs

What pickup pattern does the Sennheiser EW-DX MKE 2 SET microphone use?

The Sennheiser EW-DX MKE 2 SET uses the MKE 2, a pre-polarized condenser lavalier with an omni-directional pickup pattern. It hears the voice equally from all sides, so the level stays steady when the presenter turns the head or the clip sits slightly off-centre. Sensitivity is 5 mV/Pa and maximum SPL is 142 dB.

Which frequency range of this lavalier set should I order for the UAE?

The Sennheiser EW-DX MKE 2 SET is sold here in two ranges: Q1-9 (470.2 to 550 MHz, article no. 509314) and R1-9 (520 to 607.8 MHz, article no. 509315). Sennheiser states that specific frequencies are subject to local RF regulations, and its International Frequency Advisor (SIFA) shows the ranges allowed per country, so confirm the range for your venue and match it with any existing EW-DX receivers.

How long does the bodypack battery last?

Each EW-DX SK bodypack in the Sennheiser EW-DX MKE 2 SET runs for up to 12 hours on a BA 70 lithium-ion pack, and two BA 70 packs are included. The bodypack also runs on 2 AA 1.5 V batteries and can be charged in the device with the CHG 70N-C network-enabled charger, sold separately.

What is the wireless range of the Sennheiser EW-DX MKE 2 SET?

The Sennheiser EW-DX MKE 2 SET has a working range of up to 100 m (328 ft), with each SK bodypack transmitting at 10 mW ERP. Antenna boosters such as the EW-D AB (Q) for 470 to 550 MHz or EW-D AB (R) for 520 to 608 MHz extend long antenna cable runs.

Can I use a headset or a different lavalier with the EW-DX SK bodypack?

Yes, the SK bodypack in the Sennheiser EW-DX MKE 2 SET accepts any 3.5 mm jack microphone on Sennheiser's compatibility list. The list includes the ME 2 and ME 4 lavaliers and ME 3 and HS 2 headsets (models from 2021 onward with a gold-plated connector), MKE Essential, MKE 1, HSP Essential, HSP 2 and Headmic 1. Sennheiser does not recommend older nickel-connector versions near the transmitter because they may pick up noise.

How many of these wireless channels can run at the same time?

Up to 146 Sennheiser EW-DX channels fit in the 88 MHz switching bandwidth in Standard Mode with 600 kHz spacing, or up to 293 in Link Density Mode with 300 kHz spacing. Each EM 2 receiver carries 2 channels, and AutoScan assigns intermodulation-free frequencies automatically.

What does the EM 2 receiver connect to?

The Sennheiser EW-DX EM 2 receiver feeds each channel to a mixer, DSP or amplifier through audio outputs rated at 18 dBu max., with a headphone output for monitoring. Its RJ-45 port connects to the network for Sennheiser Control Cockpit and third-party control systems, and it can take PoE (IEEE 802.3af) power on the same cable.
