Conference speakerphones for desks and small rooms

A conference speakerphone is a tabletop device with built-in microphones and a loudspeaker that lets a group join a call from a laptop, phone or tablet without headsets. The MAXHUB UC BM35, for example, uses an 8-microphone array with 360° pickup to capture voices up to 6 m away, and connects over USB-C or Bluetooth. This collection covers Logitech P710e, BCC950 and Logi Dock devices, MAXHUB UC BM35 and UC BM45 speakerphones, and Angekis Cleartalk speakerphones.

Speakerphones suit huddle spaces, private offices and travelling staff who need clear group audio with almost no setup. For one person at a desk all day, compare Headsets & Headphones; when a room also needs a camera, see Video Bars & All-in-One Systems; and for large tables where one device cannot reach every seat, see Ceiling & Conference Microphones.

How to choose a speakerphone

Pickup range and group size

Match the microphone range to the furthest person at the table. The MAXHUB UC BM35 picks up voices up to 6 m away with its 8 microphones, and two BM35 units can be paired over Bluetooth to double the pickup area. The MAXHUB UC BM45 uses an 8-beam array with 360° pickup for small to large meeting rooms, while the Logitech BCC950 has an omnidirectional microphone with a 2.4 m range for one to a few people.

Battery or mains power

Portable speakerphones run on a battery so they can move between rooms and travel. The Logitech P710e gives up to 15 hours of talk time between charges, and the MAXHUB UC BM35 has a 4400 mAh battery for up to 15 hours of meetings. Room speakerphones such as the MAXHUB UC BM45 stay on the table, connected by USB and network cable, so they never need charging.

Portable, desk or room device

The use decides the form. The Logitech P710e is a portable unit with a stand for a phone or tablet and adjustable volume up to 85 dBA at 0.5 m, which suits a small group around a desk or a hotel room. The Logitech BCC950 combines a speakerphone with an HD camera that pans 180°, and the Logi Dock adds a speakerphone to a laptop docking station on the desk.

Connections and platforms

USB, Bluetooth and NFC

Most speakerphones connect to a computer over USB and to a phone over Bluetooth. The MAXHUB UC BM35 offers plug-and-play USB-C, a Bluetooth dongle and NFC pairing, so a phone joins with a tap. The MAXHUB UC BM45 needs no drivers: it is plug and play over USB, and its network port also connects it to a MAXHUB XBoard V7 microphone input.

Teams, Zoom and daisy-chaining

A speakerphone works with the meeting application on the connected device. MAXHUB states that the UC BM35 is certified for Microsoft Teams, and the BM35 and BM45 work with other platforms over plug-and-play USB. For larger rooms, several MAXHUB UC BM45 units connect in a daisy chain over Cat5e cable to cover the whole table from one connection.

Where speakerphones are used

Huddle rooms, focus rooms and private offices use speakerphones for group calls from a laptop, and small meeting rooms use a room speakerphone in the centre of the table; see Boardrooms & Meeting Rooms. Hybrid and travelling staff carry a battery speakerphone for calls from home, hotels and client sites; see Video Conferencing & Hybrid Workspace Solutions. In open-plan UAE offices, a speakerphone belongs in an enclosed room, since its 360° microphones pick up nearby conversations too.

Installation and room planning

A speakerphone needs little installation, but placement still matters. Before ordering, check:

  • Table position: place the unit in the centre of the group, away from laptop fans and coffee cups.
  • Connection: confirm the computer has a free USB port or Bluetooth, and that the meeting app selects the speakerphone.
  • Room size: compare the furthest seat with the device's pickup range, and add a second unit or a daisy chain where needed.

For rooms that need video as well, a video bar or a room kit replaces the speakerphone, and ceiling microphones keep the table clear in larger rooms.

Speakerphones by use

The speakerphones in this collection fall into three groups.

  • Portable and personal: the Logitech P710e with 15 hours of talk time, and the MAXHUB UC BM35 with Bluetooth and NFC.
  • Desk devices: the Logitech BCC950 with a built-in HD camera, and the Logi Dock docking station with speakerphone.
  • Meeting room units: the MAXHUB UC BM45 with daisy-chaining, and the Angekis Cleartalk DC2 and DC HD.

Applications and technical planning

  • Huddle rooms and offices

Small groups in a private office or huddle space need clear audio with no installation. A speakerphone such as the MAXHUB UC BM35, with 360° pickup up to 6 m, joins the call from the laptop on the table.

  • Personal desk audio

For one person on calls all day at a desk, a headset gives better privacy than a speakerphone, especially in open-plan offices. Compare business headsets with noise-cancelling microphones.

Frequently asked questions

What is a conference speakerphone?

A conference speakerphone is a tabletop device with microphones and a loudspeaker that lets several people join a call from one laptop, phone or tablet. The MAXHUB UC BM35, for example, has 8 microphones with 360° pickup up to 6 m and connects over USB-C or Bluetooth.

Unlike a headset, it serves the whole group at the table, and unlike a video bar, it handles audio only, so it pairs with the computer's own camera or a webcam.

How many people can one speakerphone cover?

One speakerphone covers one person to a small group, depending on its pickup range. The Logitech BCC950 has an omnidirectional microphone with a 2.4 m range, which suits one to a few people at a desk, while the MAXHUB UC BM35 picks up voices up to 6 m away.

For larger groups, two MAXHUB UC BM35 units can be paired over Bluetooth to double the pickup area, and several MAXHUB UC BM45 units can be daisy-chained over Cat5e cable.

How long does a battery speakerphone last?

The battery speakerphones in this collection are rated for about a full working day. Logitech rates the P710e for up to 15 hours of talk time between charges, and MAXHUB rates the UC BM35, with its 4400 mAh battery, for up to 15 hours.

Room units such as the MAXHUB UC BM45 run from their USB and network connection instead of a battery, so they suit tables where the device stays in place.

Can a speakerphone connect to both a laptop and a phone?

Yes, most portable speakerphones connect to a computer over USB and to a phone over Bluetooth. The MAXHUB UC BM35 offers USB-C, a Bluetooth dongle and NFC pairing, so a phone pairs with a tap.

The Logitech P710e has a built-in stand that holds a phone or tablet upright during a call, which helps when the call runs on a mobile device.

Is the MAXHUB UC BM35 certified for Microsoft Teams?

Yes. MAXHUB states that the UC BM35 is certified for Microsoft Teams. It uses an 8-microphone array with 360° pickup up to 6 m, a 4400 mAh battery for up to 15 hours of meetings, and USB-C, Bluetooth and NFC connections.

It also works over plug-and-play USB with other meeting applications on the connected computer. Check the exact model and firmware against Microsoft's device list before standardising on it.

Can speakerphones be linked together for a larger table?

Some can. Several MAXHUB UC BM45 units connect in a daisy chain over Cat5e cable to cover a large meeting table from one connection, and two MAXHUB UC BM35 units pair wirelessly to double their pickup reach.

Where the table is longer than two or three linked units can cover, ceiling microphones or a room kit with expansion microphones are the better choice.

What is the Logitech BCC950?

The Logitech BCC950 is a desktop conference camera with a built-in speakerphone for private offices and small groups. Its camera has a 78° diagonal field of view, pans 180° and zooms up to 1.2x in HD, and its omnidirectional microphone covers a 2.4 m range.

A 228 mm extender stem lifts the camera to eye level, and it connects to the computer over USB.

How loud is a portable speakerphone?

Logitech rates the P710e for adjustable volume up to 85 dBA at 0.5 m, which is loud enough for a small group around a desk or in a hotel room.

For a full meeting room, a room speakerphone or a video bar with larger speakers projects voices more evenly across the table. Place any speakerphone in the centre of the group so everyone hears the remote side at the same level.

Can a speakerphone connect to a MAXHUB interactive display?

Yes, the MAXHUB UC BM45 can. Besides plug-and-play USB, it has a network port that connects to the microphone input of a MAXHUB XBoard V7, so the display uses the speakerphone for room audio.

The BM45 measures 122 mm in diameter and 65 mm in height and uses an 8-beam microphone array with 360° pickup and AI noise suppression.

Where should a speakerphone be placed on the table?

Place the speakerphone in the centre of the group, so every talker is within its pickup range, such as the 6 m range of the MAXHUB UC BM35. Keep it away from laptop fans, cups and paper that rustles, which its microphones also pick up.

In the meeting application, select the speakerphone as both microphone and speaker, and test with a remote listener before the first important call.
