Large format displays from 75 to 98 inches

A large format display is a single commercial LCD screen of 75 inches or more, used where one picture must be seen across a large room or from a distance. The main models in this collection are 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) screens of 75, 85, 86 and 98 inches from MAXHUB and Samsung, all rated at 500 nit and for 24/7 operation, with LED backlights. Two LG video wall panels are also listed for walls built from several screens.

One large screen is simpler to install and has no seams, which suits meeting rooms and lobbies where 98 inches is enough. If the image must be larger than any single screen, or must cover an unusual shape, tile panels from Video Wall Displays instead. For screens of 85 inches and smaller in shops, restaurants and offices, the wider range in Digital Signage Displays covers more sizes.

How to choose a large format display

Screen size and viewing distance

Choose the size by the distance to the furthest viewer and the smallest text that must be read. All the large screens here are 4K UHD, so text stays sharp even when viewers sit close to a 98-inch screen. The MAXHUB CMA series comes in 75, 86 and 98 inches (ND75CMA, ND86CMA and ND98CMA), and the Samsung QM85C is 85 inches. A 98-inch screen has about 30% more screen area than an 86-inch screen, which makes a visible difference in a boardroom or auditorium.

Brightness and screen finish

At 500 nit, these screens suit offices, meeting rooms and indoor public spaces. Reflections matter more than brightness on a large screen: the Samsung QM85C uses a 25% haze anti-glare surface, and the MAXHUB CMA series uses a non-glare coating that MAXHUB says improves text readability in bright conditions. The MAXHUB CMA series also has a conformal coating that reduces the risk of damage from salt, dust and humidity, which is useful in coastal UAE cities.

One large screen or a video wall

A single 98-inch screen such as the MAXHUB ND98CMA shows one seamless image with one power and signal connection. A video wall of 55-inch panels, such as the LG 55VM5J-H with a 1.74 mm bezel-to-bezel gap, can grow to any size but shows thin lines between panels and needs a wall mount, calibration and often a controller. For a 2 × 2 wall the image is about 110 inches; below that size, one large screen is usually the simpler choice.

Inputs, computing and management

Inputs, USB-C and OPS

The Samsung QM85C has 3 HDMI 2.0 inputs and a DisplayPort 1.2 input. The 75, 86 and 98-inch MAXHUB CMA models add a full-function USB-C port for screen sharing that also charges a laptop at up to 65 W, and an 80-pin OPS slot for a plug-in Windows computer. Wired HDMI or USB-C suits fixed presentations; an OPS computer suits screens that run their own software all day.

Built-in software and remote management

The Samsung QM85C runs Tizen 7.0 with 16 GB of storage and can play scheduled content without a PC. MAXHUB provides MAXHUB Pivot, a tool for IT teams to manage CMA screens and send content to them remotely. For screens in several rooms or branches, remote management saves visits to switch screens on, update firmware or change content.

Where large format displays are used

Boardrooms and training rooms use 86-inch and 98-inch screens for presentations and video calls, where one screen replaces a projector; see Boardrooms & Meeting Rooms. Corporate lobbies, showrooms and malls use them for brand content and information, often in portrait orientation, which the Samsung QM85C and MAXHUB CMA series support; see Digital Signage & Video Walls. These are indoor displays: the Samsung QM85C is rated for 0 °C to 40 °C, so in the UAE they belong in air-conditioned rooms, away from direct sun.

Installation and planning

Large screens are heavy and need a strong fixing: the MAXHUB ND75CMA weighs 34.65 kg, the Samsung QM85C 41.9 kg, the MAXHUB ND86CMA 43.15 kg and the MAXHUB ND98CMA 69.90 kg. The Samsung QM85C is 28.5 mm deep and uses a 600 × 400 mm VESA pattern. Before ordering, check:

  • Wall and access: a wall that carries the weight, and a delivery route through doors and lifts for a 98-inch carton.
  • Height: the screen centre at a comfortable viewing height for seated or standing viewers.
  • Power and signal: a socket, LAN point and HDMI or USB-C cable route behind the screen, planned before the wall is finished.

For wall mounts, floor stands and trolleys, the VSYS range covers screens of these sizes. The 85-inch Samsung QM85C (41.9 kg, VESA 600 × 400 mm) fits the VSYS VS01A-46F fixed mount, rated for 37 to 86 inches and 80 kg, and the 55-inch LG 55VM5J-H (18.8 kg, VESA 600 × 400 mm) fits the 45 kg VSYS VSVW02-46T video wall mount. The 98-inch MAXHUB ND98CMA weighs 69.90 kg, within the 120 kg rating of the VSYS VS01A-69F for 60 to 120-inch displays; check its VESA pattern against the mount's 900 × 600 mm maximum.

Large format displays by size

The models in this collection fall into three groups.

  • 75 to 86 inches: MAXHUB ND75CMA, Samsung QM85C and MAXHUB ND86CMA, 4K UHD, 500 nit. Suited to meeting rooms and lobbies.

Applications and technical planning

  • Boardroom main screen

In boardrooms and training rooms, one 86-inch or 98-inch 4K screen replaces a projector. The MAXHUB ND98CMA adds a USB-C port that shares a laptop screen and charges it at up to 65 W, and an OPS slot for a room computer.

  • Lobby and showroom displays

Lobbies and showrooms use large screens in landscape or portrait for brand content. Models such as the Samsung QM85C, 28.5 mm deep with a 25% haze anti-glare surface, keep a slim profile on the wall and stay readable under bright ceiling lights.

  • Mounting large screens

A 98-inch display weighs about 70 kg, so it needs a wall mount or floor stand rated for its weight and VESA pattern. Mobile stands let a large screen move between rooms where a fixed installation is not possible.

Frequently asked questions

What is a large format display?

A large format display is a commercial LCD screen of 75 inches or more, built for long daily use in meeting rooms, lobbies and public spaces. The main models in this collection are the 75, 86 and 98-inch MAXHUB CMA series and the 85-inch Samsung QM85C, all 4K UHD at 3840 × 2160.

Compared with a home TV, they are rated for 24/7 operation, use anti-glare or non-glare screens, support portrait installation and add control ports such as RS232C or LAN. The MAXHUB CMA series is rated for a 50,000-hour life.

Should I choose a 98-inch screen or a video wall?

Choose a single 98-inch screen when the image needs to be up to about 98 inches, and a video wall when it must be larger or a special shape. A screen such as the MAXHUB ND98CMA has no seams and needs only one power and signal connection.

A video wall of 55-inch panels, such as the LG 55VM5J-H with a 1.74 mm bezel-to-bezel gap, can grow to any size, but shows thin lines between panels and needs a dedicated mount, calibration and often a video wall controller. A 2 × 2 wall of 55-inch panels gives about 110 inches.

Can a 98-inch display replace a projector in a meeting room?

Yes, in most meeting and training rooms. A 98-inch 4K display such as the MAXHUB ND98CMA gives a bright image at 500 nit with the room lights on, needs no lamp or filter changes and is rated by MAXHUB for 24/7 operation and a 50,000-hour life.

A projector is still the better choice when the image must be wider than about 2.2 m, the size of a 98-inch screen, or when the wall cannot carry the 69.90 kg weight of the ND98CMA. Check the delivery route too, because a 98-inch carton needs wide doors and a large lift.

How heavy are 75 to 98-inch displays?

They weigh about 35 kg to 70 kg. In this collection the MAXHUB ND75CMA weighs 34.65 kg, the Samsung QM85C 41.9 kg, the MAXHUB ND86CMA 43.15 kg and the MAXHUB ND98CMA 69.90 kg.

That weight needs a solid wall, or a floor stand rated for it, and at least two people for installation. The Samsung QM85C uses a 600 × 400 mm VESA pattern and is 28.5 mm deep, so it sits close to the wall on a slim mount.

Can I connect a laptop to a large format display with USB-C?

Yes, on the MAXHUB CMA series. The 75, 86 and 98-inch CMA models have a full-function USB-C port for screen sharing that also charges the connected laptop at up to 65 W, so one cable carries picture and power.

The Samsung QM85C uses HDMI and DisplayPort instead, with 3 HDMI 2.0 inputs and a DisplayPort 1.2 input. Check that the laptop's USB-C port supports DisplayPort video before relying on one cable, because some USB-C ports only charge or carry data.

What is an OPS slot on a large format display?

An OPS slot is a standard bay that takes a plug-in computer, called an OPS PC, so the screen runs Windows software or a signage player without an external computer and cables. OPS stands for Open Pluggable Specification.

The MAXHUB ND75CMA, ND86CMA and ND98CMA have an 80-pin OPS slot. The module is sold separately; choose one that matches the 80-pin slot and is approved by MAXHUB, because power and connector support differ between makers.

Can large format displays run 24 hours a day?

Yes, if the model is rated for it. The MAXHUB CMA series and the Samsung QM85C are rated by their manufacturers for 24/7 operation, and MAXHUB rates the CMA series for a 50,000-hour life.

For continuous use, keep the room within the rated operating range (0 °C to 40 °C for the Samsung QM85C), leave the ventilation space the manual requires and use the screen's schedule to switch off when the space is closed, which extends the life of the backlight.

Can a large format display be installed in portrait orientation?

Yes, on the main models here. The MAXHUB CMA series supports portrait and landscape modes, and Samsung shows the QM85C in both orientations. Portrait screens suit lobby and retail content such as posters, menus and digital standees.

In portrait the mount must be rated for vertical use, and the content must be designed in a 9:16 format. Check the installation manual for the correct rotation direction, because it affects ventilation and the position of the control ports.

Which screen finish suits a bright lobby or meeting room?

Choose an anti-glare or non-glare screen for rooms with windows or strong lighting, because reflections reduce readability more than brightness does. The Samsung QM85C has a 25% haze anti-glare surface, and the MAXHUB CMA series has a non-glare coating.

Both are 500 nit indoor displays, so in the UAE keep them away from direct sun through glazing. The MAXHUB CMA series also has a conformal coating that reduces the risk of damage from salt, dust and humidity in coastal buildings.

How are large format displays managed remotely?

They are managed over the network with the manufacturer's software. MAXHUB provides MAXHUB Pivot for IT teams to manage CMA displays and send content to them remotely, and the Samsung QM85C runs Tizen 7.0 with 16 GB of storage for scheduled content.

Remote management lets one team switch screens on and off, update firmware and change content across several rooms or branches. Plan a wired LAN point behind each screen, because Wi-Fi is less reliable for large content updates.
