Choosing between Da-Lite screen families

Ceiling-recessed electric

The Da-Lite Tensioned Advantage hides in the ceiling when not in use. Its case is UL plenum rated and comes with its own ceiling trim, and it can be installed in two stages: the case during rough-in and the screen surface during finishing. The TruGuide tensioning system keeps the surface flat, and 16:9 sizes run from 45 × 80 inches to 146 × 260 inches.

Wall and ceiling electric

The Da-Lite Cosmopolitan mounts on a wall or ceiling, with a single-piece steel case and integrated mounting holes on sizes up to 12 feet wide, and a two-piece aluminium case with brackets from 188 inches diagonal. It has a three-position wall switch, a white case as standard, and a black backing on front projection surfaces. The store's 34464 is a 69 × 110-inch, 130-inch diagonal 16:10 Cosmopolitan in matte white.

Portable folding

The Da-Lite Fast-Fold Deluxe is built for rental and staging, with a leg-to-frame locking mechanism that has no loose parts, 1¼-inch aluminium frame and legs, a wheeled carrying case and a 5-year warranty. Standard 16:9 sizes reach 90.5 × 162.5 inches of image, and the Heavy Duty Fast-Fold Deluxe reaches 15 × 26.5 feet for large venues.

Surfaces and control

Screen surfaces

Da-Lite surfaces are chosen for gain and viewing angle. Tensioned Advantage screens are available with HD Progressive 0.6, 0.9 and 1.1 and Parallax surfaces, among others. For Fast-Fold Deluxe screens, HD Rental has gain 1.0 with an 85° half angle, Da-Tex rear projection gain 1.3 with a 30° half angle, and Dual Vision gain 0.9 with a 65° half angle.

Controls and power

The Tensioned Advantage comes with a Low Voltage Control and a three-button wall switch, with optional RF and infrared remotes for integration with room control. Legrand lists the Cosmopolitan 34464 with a standard 120 V, 60 Hz motor, and the store also carries a Da-Lite 40973 single motor low voltage control system. Confirm the motor voltage for UAE 230 V supply when ordering.

Where Da-Lite screens are used

Boardrooms and executive meeting rooms use ceiling-recessed Tensioned Advantage screens so the screen disappears when not in use; see Boardrooms & Meeting Rooms. Universities and training centres use large electric screens in lecture halls; see Education & Training Spaces. Hotels and event companies in the UAE use Fast-Fold Deluxe and Heavy Duty Fast-Fold screens with drapery in ballrooms and exhibition halls, where screens are set up and struck the same day.

Frequently asked questions

Which Da-Lite screen families are available?

This collection holds Da-Lite Tensioned Advantage and Tensioned Professional ceiling-recessed screens, Cosmopolitan, Contour, Slimline and Studio electric screens, Model C manual screens, and Fast-Fold Deluxe and Heavy Duty Fast-Fold portable screens.

It also includes accessories such as Fast-Fold cases, frame braces, skirts and drapery, a Project-O stand and a 40973 single motor low voltage control system.

What is the Da-Lite Tensioned Advantage?

The Da-Lite Tensioned Advantage is a tensioned, ceiling-recessed electric screen with its own ceiling trim, a UL plenum rated case and the TruGuide tensioning system for a flat surface. 16:9 sizes run from 45 × 80 inches to 146 × 260 inches.

It can be installed in two stages, the case during rough-in and the surface during finishing, and comes with a Low Voltage Control and a three-button wall switch.

What is the difference between Da-Lite Cosmopolitan and Cosmopolitan Electrol?

They are the same series under a new name. Legrand AV renamed Cosmopolitan Electrol to Cosmopolitan, and Large Cosmopolitan Electrol to Cosmopolitan (over 12 feet wide).

The Cosmopolitan is a wall or ceiling electric screen with a single-piece steel case up to 12 feet wide and a two-piece aluminium case from 188 inches diagonal. The store's 34464 is a 69 × 110-inch, 16:10 matte white model.

What voltage do Da-Lite electric screen motors use?

Legrand AV lists the Da-Lite Cosmopolitan 34464 with a standard 120 V, 60 Hz motor, and the Cosmopolitan specification describes a 120 V motor mounted inside the roller.

UAE mains power is 230 V, 50 Hz, so confirm the motor voltage or a suitable power solution for each electric screen when ordering. Manual and Fast-Fold screens need no power.

How big can a Da-Lite Fast-Fold screen be?

Standard Da-Lite Fast-Fold Deluxe 16:9 screens reach an 8 × 14-foot frame with a 90.5 × 162.5-inch image. The Heavy Duty Fast-Fold Deluxe goes up to a 16 × 27.5-foot frame with a 15 × 26.5-foot image.

Heavy Duty legs adjust in 6-inch steps and the system ships in wheeled cases that meet ATA 300 standards, which suits ballrooms and large events.

Which Da-Lite surface suits rear projection?

Da-Tex is Da-Lite's rear projection surface for Fast-Fold Deluxe screens, with gain 1.3 and a 30° half angle. Dual Vision works for front or rear projection, with gain 0.9 and a 65° half angle.

For front projection on Fast-Fold screens, HD Rental has gain 1.0 with an 85° half angle and is foldable and optically enhanced for high-resolution projectors.

How is a Da-Lite Fast-Fold Deluxe screen set up?

The frame unfolds, the surface snaps onto it and the legs lock to the frame with Da-Lite's leg-to-frame locking mechanism, which has no loose parts. Frame and legs are 1¼-inch aluminium tubing.

Da-Lite notes that the former Speedy Crank frames and legs are not compatible with the locking design launched in July 2019, so check the generation when adding parts.

Why does a Da-Lite screen have a black drop?

The black drop is the black border above the image that sets how far below the case the picture starts. Da-Lite fits 12 inches of black drop as standard on Tensioned Advantage screens, or 2 inches on the Parallax Pure surface.

In high-ceiling rooms, extra drop lowers the image to a comfortable viewing height.

Can Da-Lite electric screens connect to a control system?

Yes. The Da-Lite Tensioned Advantage includes a Low Voltage Control, which lets a room control system or trigger raise and lower the screen, plus a three-button wall switch.

Optional RF and infrared remotes are available, and the store lists a Da-Lite 40973 single motor low voltage control system for screens without built-in control.

What information is needed to order a Da-Lite screen?

Five facts decide the order: the screen family and installation (recessed, wall, ceiling, manual or portable); the format and size, such as 16:9 at 121 × 216 inches; the surface and its gain; the control method; and the power supply for electric models.

For Fast-Fold screens, add the accessories needed, such as drapery, skirt, case and frame braces.
