Interactive panels for classrooms and meeting rooms

An interactive panel is a large 4K touch display with a built-in computer, so a teacher or presenter can write, annotate and share content on the screen itself without a separate projector or whiteboard. The main panels in this collection are 55 to 98 inches, 3840 × 2160 resolution, with 20 to 50 touch points and built-in Android or Windows. They come from Samsung, LG, MAXHUB, Clevertouch, OneScreen, Huawei and other brands, alongside pens, OPS computers and stands made for interactive displays.

Interactive panels are built for people standing at the screen. If the screen only needs to show content to an audience and nobody will touch it, the non-touch screens in Digital Signage Displays are the simpler choice. For self-service touch screens in lobbies, shops and restaurants, see Kiosks, which are designed for public use rather than group work.

How to choose an interactive panel

Screen size and brightness

Choose the size by the depth of the room and the size of text that must be read from the back row. In this collection, 65, 75 and 86 inches cover most classrooms and meeting rooms, and 98-inch and 105-inch panels suit larger training rooms. Interactive panels are made for indoor rooms with controlled light: the 86-inch Samsung WAF is rated at 400 nit, the LG 86TR3DJ at 390 nit without glass, and the MAXHUB XBoard V7 V8650 at 350 nit.

Built-in operating system

The built-in system decides which apps run on the panel without a laptop. The Samsung WAF runs Android 14, the LG 86TR3DJ runs Android 8.0, and the Clevertouch IMPACT Lux 2 runs Android 15 and is Google EDLA certified, which means Google services and device security tools are approved on it. The MAXHUB XBoard V7 V8650 runs Windows on an MT71 PC module with a 12th Gen Intel processor. Panels with an OPS slot, such as the Samsung WAF and LG 86TR3DJ, can add a Windows computer later.

Multi-touch and writing

The touch count sets how many people can write at the same time. The LG 86TR3DJ supports 20 touch points, the Samsung WAF up to 40, and the Clevertouch IMPACT Lux 2 and MAXHUB XBoard V7 up to 50. More touch points let several students or team members work on the board together without the panel losing track of a hand. Also check pen support, palm rejection and writing feel: the IMPACT Lux 2 has palm rejection and a 400 Hz touch scan rate, and the MAXHUB V8650 lists a 2.5 ms touch response.

Wired and wireless sharing

A laptop connected by HDMI shows its picture, but touch control of the laptop needs a USB touch connection as well. A USB-C port can carry both on one cable: the Samsung WAF has a 3-in-1 USB-C port for picture, touch and laptop charging up to 65 W, and the MAXHUB V8650 has a USB-C input with DisplayPort 1.2. For guests without cables, the Samsung WAF can mirror up to 9 devices. Rooms that need one wireless button for every laptop can add a system from Wireless Presentation & Screen Sharing.

Cameras, microphones and video calls

Some panels are complete video call systems. The MAXHUB XBoard V7 V8650 has three 50 MP cameras, a 16-microphone array with a 15 m pick-up range and a 2.1 speaker system rated 2 × 10 W plus 20 W. Most other panels have speakers but no camera, so a hybrid meeting room or classroom adds a camera and microphone. A USB video bar from Video Bars & All-in-One Systems mounted above or below the panel is the usual way to do that.

Where interactive panels are used

Schools, universities and training centres use interactive panels in place of whiteboards and projectors, for lessons that mix writing, video and student devices; see Education & Training Spaces. Offices use them in huddle rooms and boardrooms for whiteboarding, presentations and video calls; see Boardrooms & Meeting Rooms. The panels in this collection are indoor products: the Samsung WAF, LG 86TR3DJ and MAXHUB V8650 are rated for 0 °C to 40 °C, so in the UAE they belong in air-conditioned rooms, away from direct sun through glazing.

Installation and planning

An 86-inch panel weighs about 60 kg to 68 kg: 62.5 kg for the Samsung WAF, 67.45 kg for the LG 86TR3DJ and 59.95 kg for the MAXHUB V8650, and all three use an 800 × 600 mm VESA pattern. Before ordering, check:

  • Wall or stand: a solid wall rated for the panel weight, or a mobile stand if the panel moves between rooms.
  • Writing height: the lowest part of the screen should be within reach of the youngest or seated users.
  • Power and network: a socket and a LAN point behind the panel, plus a USB or USB-C cable route from the presenter's seat.

For mounting, the VSYS VTLX12-610TW mobile cart (140 kg, VESA up to 1000 × 600 mm) and the VSYS VSVW13-610T push-pull wall mount (130 kg, 800 × 600 mm listed) both fit the 86-inch panels here.

Interactive panels by platform

The main 86-inch panels in this collection fall into three groups by their built-in system.

  • Android with OPS slot: Samsung WAF 86 (Android 14, 40 touch points) and LG 86TR3DJ (Android 8.0, 20 touch points). Suited to classrooms that may add a Windows module.
  • Google EDLA Android: Clevertouch IMPACT Lux 2 86, Android 15 with 50 touch points. Suited to schools that use Google services on the panel.
  • Windows with camera and microphones: MAXHUB XBoard V7 V8650, with three 50 MP cameras and a 16-microphone array. Suited to meeting rooms that run video calls from the panel.

Applications and technical planning

  • Interactive classrooms

Classrooms replace whiteboards and projectors with a 75 or 86-inch panel that the teacher and several students can write on at once. Panels with 40 to 50 touch points, such as the Samsung WAF or Clevertouch IMPACT Lux 2, suit group activities, and screen mirroring brings student devices onto the board.

  • Meeting room collaboration

In meeting and huddle rooms, an interactive panel is the screen, whiteboard and video call system in one. The MAXHUB XBoard V7 V8650 adds three 50 MP cameras and a 16-microphone array, so a small room can run video calls from the panel without a separate camera or microphone.

  • Mobile panels on carts

Where one panel serves several rooms, a mobile cart lets it move between classrooms, labs and meeting spaces. An 86-inch panel weighs about 60 kg to 68 kg, so the cart must be rated for the weight and the 800 × 600 mm VESA pattern of the chosen panel.

Frequently asked questions

What is an interactive panel and how is it different from a smart TV?

An interactive panel is a commercial 4K display with a touch frame, pens and a built-in computer, designed for writing and group work at the screen. A smart TV has no touch input and is designed for watching from a sofa, not for daily lessons or meetings.

Interactive panels also add whiteboard software, screen sharing for several devices, an OPS slot or Windows module on many models, and front USB or USB-C ports. The Samsung WAF, for example, supports up to 40 touch points and mirroring from up to 9 devices.

What size interactive panel do I need for a classroom or meeting room?

For most classrooms and meeting rooms, choose 75 or 86 inches; use 65 inches for huddle rooms and 98 inches or larger for deep training rooms. The size should let the person in the last row read the smallest text on screen.

In this collection the main families, such as the Samsung WAF, Clevertouch IMPACT Lux 2 and MAXHUB XBoard V7, come in 65, 75 and 86 inches, and OneScreen TL7 panels go up to 98 and 105 inches. Measure the room depth before choosing, and check the wall can carry about 60 kg to 68 kg for an 86-inch panel.

How many touch points does an interactive panel need?

Twenty touch points are enough for one or two people writing at once; 40 to 50 touch points let a group work on the board together. Each finger or pen tip uses one point, so a panel with more points loses track of hands less often during group work.

In this collection the LG 86TR3DJ supports 20 touch points, the Samsung WAF up to 40, and the Clevertouch IMPACT Lux 2 and MAXHUB XBoard V7 up to 50. For primary classrooms where several children write together, choose 40 or more.

Should I choose an Android or a Windows interactive panel?

Choose Android for simple whiteboarding, screen sharing and web apps on the panel itself, and Windows when users need full desktop software or a video meeting room system on the panel. Android panels such as the Samsung WAF (Android 14) and Clevertouch IMPACT Lux 2 (Android 15) start quickly and need little management.

The MAXHUB XBoard V7 V8650 runs Windows on an MT71 PC module with a 12th Gen Intel processor. Android panels with an OPS slot, such as the Samsung WAF and LG 86TR3DJ, can add a Windows computer later.

What does Google EDLA certified mean on an interactive display?

Google EDLA certification means Google has approved the Android version on the display, so Google services such as the Play Store and Google apps run on it, together with Google's device security and management features. Panels without EDLA run Android but cannot offer the Play Store officially.

In this collection the Clevertouch IMPACT Lux 2 is Google EDLA certified and runs Android 15 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. EDLA matters most for schools that already use Google Workspace and Google accounts.

Can I connect a laptop to an interactive panel with one cable?

Yes, if both the laptop and the panel support video over USB-C. One USB-C cable then carries the picture, touch control back to the laptop and, on some panels, charging. The Samsung WAF has a 3-in-1 USB-C port for picture, touch and charging up to 65 W.

With HDMI, the picture appears but touch control of the laptop needs a second USB cable to the panel's touch port. The LG 86TR3DJ, for example, has 3 HDMI inputs and 2 touch USB ports. Check that the laptop's USB-C port supports DisplayPort video before relying on one cable.

Do interactive panels have a built-in camera and microphone for video calls?

Some do, but most do not. The MAXHUB XBoard V7 V8650 has three 50 MP cameras, a 16-microphone array with a 15 m pick-up range and a 2.1 speaker system, so it can run video calls on its own.

Panels such as the Samsung WAF, LG 86TR3DJ and Clevertouch IMPACT Lux 2 have speakers but no camera. For hybrid lessons or meetings on those panels, add a USB video bar or a separate camera and microphone, connected to the panel's built-in system, OPS computer or the presenter's laptop.

How heavy is an 86-inch interactive panel and how is it mounted?

An 86-inch interactive panel weighs about 60 kg to 68 kg and uses an 800 × 600 mm VESA mounting pattern. In this collection the MAXHUB XBoard V7 V8650 weighs 59.95 kg, the Samsung WAF 62.5 kg and the LG 86TR3DJ 67.45 kg.

The VSYS VSVW13-610T wall mount (130 kg) and VTLX12-610TW cart (140 kg) both take that weight and pattern. Set the height so the lowest users can reach the bottom of the screen, and plan power, LAN and a USB or USB-C cable route before installation.

Can an interactive panel be used near windows or outdoors?

Interactive panels are indoor products and should not be used outdoors or in direct sunlight. Their brightness is set for classrooms and meeting rooms: 350 nit on the MAXHUB V8650, 390 nit on the LG 86TR3DJ without glass and 400 nit on the Samsung WAF.

These models are rated for 0 °C to 40 °C, so keep them in air-conditioned rooms. Avoid placing the panel opposite an unshaded window, because reflections and glare reduce readability, and use blinds where the sun reaches the screen.

What is an OPS slot on an interactive display?

An OPS slot is a standard bay at the back or side of a display that takes a plug-in computer module, called an OPS PC, so the panel runs Windows without an external computer or extra cables. OPS stands for Open Pluggable Specification.

In this collection the Samsung WAF and LG 86TR3DJ have an OPS slot, and the MAXHUB XBoard V7 uses its own pluggable MT71 PC module. OPS modules are sold separately; check that the module is approved by the panel's maker, because power and connector support differ between brands.
